About RSBA

What is the Robson Street Business Association? The RSBA is a non-profit business organization that represents a specific geographic area of Robson - the 3 block stretch which is the main shopping and dining strip comprising approximately 200 businesses.

The RSBA was created by City Council at the request of local property and business owners in 1991. The Association is funded by a special municipal levy that is paid by all commercial properties in the area. The work of the Association falls into three main categories: 1. Advocacy - Acting as single voice with regards to issues of development, traffic planning, crime prevention etc.; 2. Street Enhancement - Enhancing the street through physical improvements; 3. Marketing - Promoting the area to both locals and tourists through advertising and special promotions.

How it Works
An elected Board of Directors governs the Association and a full time Coordinator carries out the day-to-day duties. Programs are developed and implemented by two committees: Marketing/Promotions and Community Relations.

Mission Statement
To establish the image of Robson Street as a unique, diverse, yet comfortable retail area, which strongly appeals to the local market.

ONGOING PROGRAMS

Street Clean Program: The Association provides a part-time custodian for the street. Working Wednesday to Sunday, the custodian supplements the City cleaning crews by sweeping up litter and generally keeping the street clean and tidy.

Decorative Lighting: Since 1992 the Association has installed and maintained lights in all the trees in the RSBA area. The decorative tree lights work to define the area and provide additional sparkle and atmosphere to the street.

Power Washing: Every spring since 1992 the RSBA has power washed the sidewalks. This intensive cleaning removes the build-up of grime and generally improves the appearance of the street in time for the busy summer season.

Banners: The most visible program of the RSBA is the banner program. Since 1991 Robson has gained a reputation for displaying innovative and imaginative banners.

BIA Boundaries: The boundaries of the Association are: Robson Street from Burrard to Jervis (1000, & 1200 block), and up-to the lane-ways on Burrard, Thurlow, and Bute, going both North and South.
