Vancouver Dining: Castella Cheesecake #onRobson

Dessert lovers rejoice…there’s a new sweet spot #onRobson and it’s seriously delicious! Located at 1190 Robson Street, Castella Cheesecake offers Japanese-style souffle cheesecakes, as well as cheese tarts. But this isn’t the traditional North American sweet and creamy version of the dessert you’re accustomed to. Rather, Japanese cheesecake is less sweet, the cheese flavour is much subtler and the texture resembles that of a souffle. The trick to achieving this consistency is in the separation of the egg yolks from the whites, which are whipped into a foam and then folded into the cake batter prior to baking.

Japanese cheesecake is a Vancouver craze as of late, but if you’re not into super long line-ups at some of the other local purveyors then Castella is a great option right in the heart of bustling Robson Street. Pick up your own cheesecake souffle for only $10.85 or you can order just a slice topped with ice cream of course for $5.65. Creamy cheese tarts are available individually for $3.25 or by the half dozen for $15. And to wash it all down, a selection of drinks, including Nitro Cold Brew, Iced Cold Brew and Fresh Fruit Tea chilled with seasonal fruits, is available.
